Who are the Andals in Game of Thrones?

A race of men known as the Andals invaded Westeros 6,000 years before the series’ events. Currently, they are the dominant racial and cultural group on the continent.
The ancestral home of the Andals was in a region known as Andalos, north of the modern Free City of Pentos, on the west coast of Essos.

Six thousand years ago, the Andals went to Westeros after allegedly seeing the “Seven-faced God” in visions. They swept in and took control of most of the continent there, which was then inhabited by the First Men. The Andals acquired the concept of chivalry as well as the capacity to craft iron-wrought weapons and armour from Essos.

The Andals regularly intermarried the First Men tribes they subjugated. However, the genetic influence of the Andals is still disproportionately strong on the continent; in fact, Essos citizens (like the Dothraki) frequently refer to the Seven Kingdoms as “the Land of the Andals.”

The two exceptions are Dorne, where Andal residents ultimately mated with Eastern Refugee Refugees, and the North, which the Andals never conquered and where the First Men’s blood is still potent.

Who are the Andals in ‘Game of Thrones’?

The Andals were the other two significant ethnic groups from which the humans of Westeros descended. They currently dominate the continent in terms of both culture and ethnicity.
